Meet Kona
Located in Seattle, WA
Kona is a sweet, intelligent 8 year old who has so much love to give. She is deeply devoted to her people, enjoys belly rubs and chin scratches, and—once she knows she can trust you—will happily shower you with kisses and affection. She is spayed, housebroken and up to date on all of her vaccinations.
Kona has experienced some trauma in her life and did not have the opportunity to develop strong socialization skills early in life. She needs a patient, understanding adopter who will respect her boundaries, provide consistent reassurance, and allow her to build trust at her own pace. Slow introductions and ongoing positive-reinforcement training will be important for helping Kona feel confident and secure.
During her time at her foster home she has made encouraging progress. She is very smart, highly motivated by treats, and eager to learn. She knows several tricks and can likely learn even more with consistency and encouragement. She is fairly good on leash, although she can be highly reactive around other dogs because she was not well socialized with them. With continued training and gradual, carefully managed exposure, she will show progress with the goal to reduce reactivity on leash.
Kona is an old soul looking for a calm, loving companion who will enjoy walks, belly rubs, chin scratches, and the incredibly rewarding process of earning her trust. Once Kona decides you are safe, she will give you her whole heart. She is ready for her next chapter with someone who will love her as deeply as she loves them.
Kona needs a home where there are no little children and where little children do not visit. She also needs to be in a home without other dogs. The owner said that she has been around a cat her whole life. She does sometimes chase the cat but has never been aggressive toward it.
