Meet Dixie

Dixie is a delight! Based on her demeanor and the classic Springer hops she still has you’d never know this spunky, 46 pound little low rider was nine years old.

Dixie spends most of her day surveying the yard from her bay window perch or as we refer to her favorite pastime, “watching her stories”.  Dixie has a hilarious personality, if she could talk, I think she’d be making everyone laugh all day long with slapstick comedy and one-liner jokes.

This sweet gal came in a bit rough around the edges from her previous life, but you’d never know it based on how loving and happy-go-lucky she is. We are working on helping her put on another pound or two and she’s content eating everything in her path. When it’s time for food she does some happy toe tapping and I think she’d run through the wall like the Kool-Aid man to get to her bowl. Dixie has all of the basic commands down pat, and she’s very-VERY food motivated so I am sure she’d pick up new tricks with ease to anyone willing to put in a little time helping her learn.

She’s a good communicator when she needs to go out and she’s quick about her business. Dixie loves to go for car rides and other than the occasional rude bark at random passersby, she’s well behaved in the back seat. She’s mastered the art of a good cuddle and LOVES a good ol’ tummy rub. She’s also got a lovely balance of the classic Velcro Springer and being totally okay hanging out on her own in the other room while her humans work.

Dixie is doing well co-habituating with her foster-sister (the resident pit mix). We think she’d do best with another even-keeled, female dog to keep her company when the humans are gone from the house or for her humans to not leave her behind often. Dixie will bark when meeting someone new, but she warms up quickly and accepts scratches and treats from new friends with great enthusiasm! She has been busted counter surfing a few times, so we are working on helping her remember to keep all 4 on the floor at all times.

Dixie has lived a lot of life so far, but she’s got so much more to give to the right family! If you are looking for a friend who will be your ride-or-die, make you smile, laugh, and feel all the warm fuzzies, then Dixie (or “ma’am when she’s been a bit naughty) may be just the gal for you.
