Meet Lou - Permanent Foster

UPDATE: 06/08/24

Lou has found his forever home with his foster family. Due to his on going medical needs it was decided that this would be the best place for Lou to live out the rest of his life.

UPDATE: 04/07/24

Since being in his foster home Lou has been thriving! He is a total snuggle bug and loves to cuddle up with his foster Springer companion. So far his ear infection has been clearing up nicely with the daily drops and weekly at home flushes. This is great news as it looks like this treatment will save his hearing. Lou is ready for his forever home. If you are interested in Lou please complete an application and a coordinator will reach out to you.

Lou joined the SSRI family when his family knew they could no longer meet his needs and they selflessly entrusted Lou to us to find him the best home possible.

Lou is 8 years old and is ready to find his forever home. He is a total gem! He gets along with dogs, cats, adults, children…you name it this boy is all it! Lou was on the heavy side when he came to us but since being in his foster home, he has lost a total of 8 pounds and currently weighs 82 pounds. We are so proud of him! The vet feels that he should be about 70 pounds…he is a big boy but a pure lap dog. Lou is house trained, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He rides well in the car and loves his walks on a leash.

So you may be asking why is this boy still available. Five years ago, Lou was caught by a neighbor eating one of their chickens. Instead of chasing him away or reaching out to his family, the neighbor decided to shoot him. As a result, Lou has two BBs in the left side of his face. He currently is not a candidate to get them removed due to the location. This has left Lou prone to chronic ear infections in his left ear and nasal discharge. The good news is this is totally manageable with daily ear drops ($22 per month) and 1 pill for his sinus ($48 per month) and a weekly ear flush that is done at home.. He will also need regular blood work to monitor the impact of the medications.

We are looking for someone who will be committed to giving Lou his meds daily and following up with regular bloodwork and check ups. This is an absolute must for this boy to remain healthy.

If you think that you are that special person for Lou,, please complete the adoption agreement below and a volunteer will reach out to you.
